Cem, if you are flying in difficult conditions you will always need some form of glide-path control. I would reccommend fitting a set of small spoilers (not airbrakes!) and then arranging the mixers in your radio transmitter to raise the ailerons with the spoilers to about half of their upward travel. This will give you a very powerful means to control your landings. It is a small deviation from scale, but better than a bag of broken bits... Sad

Here is another idea...you could split the ailerons and use C.R.O.W. braking. Look at this half scale Orlik from last weekend: just think of the mixing involved...! Wink

Hi Cem, with my MG9, when there are wind, there are no problem without airbrakes. On the Fafnir, the airfoil is very thick, I don't think you will have any trouble for landing without airbrakes. You can ask to Vince, what he think of this.
You will cover your Fafnir with plywood + varnish?

Yes, I watched your MG9 video. Very good landing.
I did ask to Vince, Vince doesn't use the airbreaks.

I am thinking to make plywood and varnish only.
Like your MG9 Very Happy

Hello,

I also planned Fafnir after the design of Vincent Crocket, but did not yet get the time to start. Why is an other story.

I had some mailings with Vincent Cocket and asked him about the "missing" airbrakes. The original Fafnir didn't have them either. So if you plan to construct really scale, you have to do without them.

I asked Vince about landings without. He answered me that's no problem. He sets the ailerons high, like a F3B crow-brake, but without the flaps down. Works very good for him, he told me.

With this brakes, I expect the need to do some (a lot?, down) compensation on the elevator.

Greetings,
Dirk Schpper.

Hehhehhehheeee !!! SECRET ... BIG SECRET Laughing

First, I make photocopy of the drawings. Next, I place the relevant parts/sheets (the drawing must be facing down) over the plywood/balsa. In Turkish, we say "like kissing".

Now, the important part :

You must make a little training on another sample before application ...

You must stiffly press the copy over the plywood with one hand while making the transfer to avoid any possible movement/distortion. You take a piece of cloth and wet it with "cellulosic thinner" and strongly rub it over the drawing lines which will make the transfer. The thinner should be the right amount to make a successful transfer. This is why you must make a few trials. You must DEFINITELY do this in a very well ventilated room.

You will best understand with a few trials ...

Hope this helps Very Happy

C'est encore plus facile: te fait un photocopie ou impression laser.
Couleur noir, tres dense.
Coté copie en bas, contre le bois.
Tenir en place, passer aver un fer a repasser bien chaud.
Comme ca om peut faire deux qq fois trois copies.

In Enlish:
It's even easier.
Make a copy or laser-print. Color = black, high density.
Print-side facing the wood.
Secure the paper by hand/tape/... and pass over with a hot (flat)iron.
This way you can make at least 2, sometimes 3 copies from 1 print.

Dirk.

Salut,

mais faites attention, si vous utilizees Tape pour tenir les copies en place. Ne touchez pas le Tape avec le fer.. ca veux faire des problèmes avec vos femmes.

Easier but dangerous... don't touch that tape with the iron... one could get into big trouble with his wife ;)

Aussi Dirk.
