Hallo Johannes, danke , aber manchmal sind die "Leisten" von 1.5 X 1.5 balsa von die Rumpf gebrochen . Glucklich nehmt die Eindeckung alle Kraften auf, aber es war ein gutes idee die Leisten von Kiefer zu machen... Jetzt ist die Rumpf eingedeckt, Photo's kommen spater.

A small update;
I also made a coupling, changed the servo mountings to keep all the weight in the nose. I went on with sheating the fuselage, broke a lot of these small stringers.. With the sheating glued on it became much stronger.

With the sheating finished I had to fit the rudder. The hinges are very close to each other, I didn't like the plastic hinges included in the kit, so I opted to make metal ones from 0.3 brass, folded around a 0.6mm steel wire and then soldered. By taking out the wire, the rudder can be detached, which is maybe necessary to mount and dismount the horizontal stabilizer.



I made the cockpit cover with a temporary stiffener in the centre.





The yellow thing is a receiver in shrink hose instead of its case, so it fits between the servo's





Finished the sheating, servo leads and connectors, its almost ready for tinting the balsa. Because I want it in the “varnished ply” look, I am going to try what is better, with bister, paint or “teinte antiquaire”.

Hello everyone,
After some trials I opted for "teinte antiquare" Chene moyen mixed with merisier.


After staining, the fuselage received 3 layers of pore filler and I liked the result. I still hadn't received the "Vlies" and a friend brought tissue for me. In the meantime, I happened to find an address for silk, so I ordered that anyway. I didn't recall how the silk was put on, so I found some videos on You Tube. The silk is laid wet (water) over the wing, fixed at the edges with dope and after drying, dope is put over the whole surface.

This makes it really tight, a bit too tight for the ailerons and certainly for the rudder, the trailing edge was compressed.



With the help of clamping aids I could hold it straight and with a blunt injection needle I put some epoxy resin in it, then it was presentable again.

Gradually I remembered that in the old days I just dry-fixed the edges with dope, let it dry and then put dope on the whole surface, giving a little less tension, but that would have been better here! There are also some discolorations due to the wet silk,I am not completely happy with that, lets say it looks old......
Next, the centre of gravity had to be put in place. It needed 70 grams of lead in it! I thought that was a lot. Also I thought the cg on the drawing was very forward, 37mm on a chord of 120mm. I decided to calculate it with Ecalc and came up with 42 to 48mm from the LE. That made a difference of 25grams lead!





Ready to fly it now weighs 336 grams, 14.9 dm2 wing area, that gives 22.5 gr/dm2.


Sjoerd 3D printed a very small pilot, which just fitted.





Last Sunday it could fly for the first time. A few hand stosses and that looked good.
Then Rob's Piper towed it, surely some trim was needed, after that it flew fine.
Always a beautiful and satisfying sight, to see that "old" wood with transparent wings against the sky!
Unfortunately I have no pictures of the Minimoa in flight, you need a really good camera for such a small plane in the air, and that was just not available that day.
Concluded; it was a nice and instructive (small) project, now I have to wait until it can fly on a slope in light airs.

Très jolie petite machine que tu as réalisé et très beau travail
C'est difficile à mettre en œuvre la soie !!! , je me suis longtemps posé la question de mon coté et j'ai préféré le Diacov.
Mais pour un petit planeur, c'est certain que ton choix est le bon.

c'est tout mignon à cette échelle et on reconnait parfaitement la silhouette de ce planeur !
C'est tout un art le recouvrement à la soie… et pas facile à maîtriser…

En rétrospective, j'aurais dû coller la soie sèche sur les bords avec de la dope. C'est aussi simple qu'avec du papier. Je viens d'apprendre que les taches peuvent être enlevées avec du thinner. En tout cas, il est léger, le revêtement total ne pèse que 27 grammes, dope comprise.
Pour les petits modèles, c'est donc une bonne option.

Merci Christian pour vos aimables paroles. Je ne voyais pas la possibilité de ne pas coller la soie sur le bois. Comme il s'agit d'une soie très fine (21gr/m2), on la voit à peine, heureusement. Le diluant que quelqu'un a recommandé sur le forum néerlandais de modélisme est le Methylisobutylketone (dit Wikepedia), une substance peu agréable. Les taches sont dues au fait que j'ai d'abord mouillé la soie avec de l'eau. L'humidité, en d'autres termes. Je doute que je puisse faire disparaître les taches, mais cela lui donne du caractère et à un mètre de distance, on ne le voit plus.

Hallo Vincent,

dann bring den Flieger am 16.-17. doch mit auf die Kuppe, vieleicht können wir um die Wette fliegen. Der Kleine braucht aber richtigen Wind - langsam geht nicht. Ich muß jetzt erstmal meinen "Baufehler" beseitigen - die OP ist aber morgen abgeschlossen - nix für einen Maurer!

The mini Minimoa has flown at the Weiherberg, Bft 4, very turbulent, but it was controlable (not always )
