Bonjour a tous,
When looking at this of the supporting strut of the skid I was not content what I made, it was a bit thick and it was straight.
Maybe the struts are bended to give some springing, I don't know.
The tube which I had, was a bit too thick, so I took stainless steel wire (bicycle spoke) bended it, checked with the picture
and made the support. I also changed the attachment thing for the diacov under the wing
In the meantime I coloured the wooden parts with "teinte antiquaire"merisier combined with brown bister. Reinforced the skid with some split glass rovings and epoxy resin.
Prepared the hook for bungee start
After painting I'll bend the hook.
Yes painting, after consultation with Hans Disma and Arno van der Holst two colours could be possible, khaki or light grey. Luckily Hans got a RAL number (6014) for the khaki, and when looking at the black and white photo's the metal seem quite dark, so I opted for khaki, but it's a guess....
I have an old basic spray booth so I started..
A lot of small parts combined, still almost all the paint goes past it is messy and gives a lot of fumes despite the exhaust with a computor fan.
The result
All drying small and big parts
and the wooden parts.
After colouring the wing ribs a bit, the wings can be covered and then finally I can assemble the fuselage, I'll keep you informed!
Vincent. |

Bonjour a tous,
I started with the covering of the wings, did a wash with bister ( a water based sort of paint) to get slightly darker ribs.
and bolted the metal "U" shaped things to attach the wing struts onto the spars
Then I started putting on the diacov, trying to do all the things I read about it on the forum.
The steel wire trailing edge didn't give much problems, thanks to the forum again and it became quite rigid. It looks like the wing was still flexible enough to get it warped sufficiently.
I also covered the central parts of the wing and now I could start with the fuselage, first attaching diacov at the wooden suport (instead of wire at the real thing)
Then I covered the nacelle tubes with diacov, bacause I think I can't reach a lot of places later.
Its a bit like a chinese puzzle....
The vertical struts are hold in place with 1mm steel clips thruogh holes in the M4 vertical bolts.
Now I first want to cover the remaining two wings, rigg it up and see if the warping will work, hope so...
to be continued,
Vincent.

Beste Vincent,
Bonne continuation.

To not disappoint you both, I'll give a small preview

This is a very short video of the wingwarping, a lot of wiring is temporary, so there is quite a lot of slop, will be better, but I think basically it's working

Bonjour a tous,
I started with covering the rudders and tailplane, looking again at "Alte news" for details used by Fokker
The diacov went on very nicely, especially round edges.
After finishing this I went for the nacelle, hoping for the best. First the rear upper part of the nacelle,
Put in the ballast (800 grams, painted white), so I hope it will be less visible, containing the battery pack. Then I could do the underside.
Now I could cover the topside of the nacelle
Now the rigging, I had a pair of pliers which came in useful!
some shrinking tube
I placed the clips at the struts , so I can dismantle it and it is less obtrusive (I hope).
detail of the rudderhorns
Suddenly it's looking quite complete
The wingwarping was tuned a bit and I made a short video
https://youtu.be/a8YtED_fWvY
When putting the plane vertical you get a nice view of the bottom.
I have a question; On the short films from the FG 2 and the foto's I get the impressing that there is no canvas at bottom, so I left it open. Besides that it is practical I can image that it was made that way, but maybe there is some other info!
Next is the internal fuselage rigging, the wingtip handles and skids and finishing the interior. Last but certainly not least the pilot and passenger.
To be continued,
Vincent

Bonjour a tous,
Today I made the internal rigging of the tailboom. On the website of Paolo Severin is a method described to make the inetrnal rigging, which is very usefull. When I visited the Aviodrome I could see how Fokker does this on his "Spin", his first aircraft,
He made his own "bushes, tubes?" from wire and I tried to do the same.
I wrapped 0.5 steel wire around a core of 1mm steel in a drill.
cut it in short "bushes"
Put it under tension when I put it through the other hole..
fold it around and put the bush on it
Sometimes it was hard to reach....
The tailboom became incrideble stiff, I hope not to stiff, when I touch a wire accidentally it sounds like a guitar
some detail;
to be continued,
Vincent. |

Merci Johannes for the nice comments!
I tried to put all the rc components out of sight under the seats and more or less demountable. Without ;
and with the rc components/ seat supporting structure
The steering stick and rudder pedals ready for mounting;
The springs are only to keep the wires straight, its all not functional
The backrest of the seats covered with diacov and painted with humbrol
The cushion was made from 3mm balsa covered with leather from an old purse (nice thin leather)
and temporarely in place
Now I have to make a pilot and a passenger and then I can make the harnesses.
To be continued,
Vincent |

Hello everyone,
First, thankyou Sebastian and Harold for your comments! It took some time because I had a bike accident followed by influenza, it took some time!
I went on putting the grabrails?? and wingskids at the wings. I tried to avoid Philips screws, so I used M2 bolts and nuts
A small pin went through the skid at the front end to avoid rotation, I hope its flexible enough not to break.
The grabrails are fastened with a M3 bolt through the maingirder in the front and a screw at the rear.
In the meantime I worried myself how to transport the whole lot.
There are 8 cables per side and kinks (coudes?) are a real danger. It is just a sailingboat with the mast lowered. So after lots of thinking I came up with some "helpthings"
Spruce 8 X 4 mm with pins and rubberbands do the trick, I hope.
Flexible rigging cables, flexible steering cables and rigid rigging, hopefully it will make some noise when flying
With some luck the tailplanes fitted on top
The remaining vertical tailplanes go with the wings.
All the small parts well protected!
Its almost ready, I am working on the pilot and passenger , the anemometer is only just on the drawing board!
to be continued,
Vincent |

Absolut Grossartig!!!

Hello everyone,
I started with the pilot figures, got a drawing and scaled it down to 1: 5, glued it on card to make templates
, cut them out in 10 mm balsa, which I doubled to get more or less the right thickness
For the knees and elbows I used robart 3.5 mm hinges
The hips and shoulders should rotate in all directions, so I made joints with double elastic band.
To get the right amount of freedom in articulation, I rounded the inside of the joints.
You can just see the place where I put a pin (red arrow), it goes through the middle of the big hole, so the elastic band goes round the pin. I use a double bended steel wire to get the elastic cord in place
When the clothing is finished, I will put a knot in it! The pilot was a bit thin, so I glued an extra 5mm balsa on his chest.
To see if they fit I compared it with the real thing:
I also doubled th Diacov on the nacelle, to make it a bit less transparant.
This picture, which I recently found, gives a good idea of the harness he used
The points where the hip belt is attached is just visible
On this photo you can also see how the shoulder belt is positioned. The belt itself is very broad, scaled down I guessed about 14mm. I could get 14mm wide, black elastic band, so that problem was solved. I made the anchoring plates from 0.5 mm aluminium (from a can)
, made a jig from steel plate. A lot of plates, sprayed white.
Bolted with M2 just behind the seats ( the shoulder belts have each one point, not on this photo)
I had to take this unit out again
The buckles and the belts secured with a clip
The pilot and passenger went to my sister Hans who is going to make the clothes (I can't wait!!)
Quite unexpected I started with the heads, made from super sculpey. tI tried to make the pilot look like Anthony Fokker
, I altered him a bit and made the passenger, which looked a bit less optimistic
Both will be wearing caps, so the ears will be covered.
The heads are baked, but not yet painted, next thing to do!
Will be continued,
Vincent |
